24 Jul: The Bank of Canada left its overnight target rate at 2% druing last week's announcement. The central bank will likely raise rates in October.
1 May: The nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) remained unchanged in February after a decline of 0.2 per cent in January.
16 Apr: On Tuesday, the Bank of Canada cut its overnight target rate to 2.00% from its previous rate of 2.25%. This motivated chartered banks to cut its prime lending rate to 3.75% from 4.00%.
2 Apr: A leading supplier of steel market information, MEPS International reports hikes in price between February 2003 and February 2004 as high as 65.5 percent. Rebar, which averaged U.S. $249 per ton a year ago is up to $412 per ton. Medium sections and steel beams which sold last year for $336 per ton now sell for $491 per ton. Wire mesh, which averaged $257 per ton last year is now at $403 per ton.
